According to police reports, the situation unfolded when Chief Hashim of Wajir Township made a distress call, reporting unrest in the area.
Officers from the Wajir Township Police Station, who were on patrol nearby, rushed to the scene and found Senior Sergeant Lonzi Joseph, a member of the Department of Defence (DoD), lying on the ground, injured.
Lonzi, who had been riding a motorcycle at the time, recounted how he was suddenly surrounded by a group of attackers.
The mob forcibly took the ignition key from his motorcycle, and during the altercation, they struck him with stones, injuring him on the forehead.
"The attackers hit me with stones, and I was left with a bleeding forehead," Lonzi said.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police quickly dispersed the crowd to restore order. However, the situation escalated when a group of KDF officers, led by Major Masai from the Wajir KDF branch, arrived to offer additional support.
The military officers fired blanks into the air to disperse the mob and ensure the safety of the injured officer.
Lonzi was rushed to Wajir Referral Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later discharged.
The case is now being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Wajir East.
Authorities are working to identify the individuals responsible for the attack and bring them to justice.
